THE STORY BEHIND THUTO LABS
Everytime we open our phones, there’s new products, new trends, new must-haves.
The beauty industry thrives on overconsumption—convincing people they need more. But after years of working as a professional makeup artist in TV and film, I realized something: most people don’t why they’re buying what they buy.
I’ve spent my career educating people, not just on what to use but how and why—because beauty should be about knowledge, not just consumption. That’s why I created Thuto Labs.
The name Thuto comes from the Setswana language, spoken in South Africa, and means "education." And education is the foundation of everything I do.
South Africa is the birthplace of the woman I am today. My “Soul-lo” trip there in 2023 wasn’t just about travel—it was about transformation. I walked into that journey one version of myself and walked out a new woman, shaped by the lessons, the people, and the deep sense of purpose I found there.
It was in South Africa that I embraced the idea that learning and growth are the keys to true transformation.
Before Thuto Labs, I taught Camera Ready Workshop, an in-person masterclass for beauty professionals looking to break into TV and film. But not everyone could fly across the country to attend, and I saw a bigger problem—there was no digital platform dedicated to real beauty education for both hair and makeup. At the same time, I noticed how much information was out there, but not all of it was rooted in expertise.
The beauty community is full of creativity and inspiration, and influencers have played a huge role in making beauty more accessible. But I also saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between artistry, education, and professional techniques that aren’t always widely shared. I wanted to create a space where both beginners and professionals could not only learn the latest trends but also understand the fundamentals of beauty and makeup on a deeper level.
That’s why Thuto Labs exists—to cut through the noise and bring real, expert-led education to everyone. Whether you're looking to perfect your everyday routine or take your artistry to the next level, this platform is here to teach, empower, and transform the way you approach beauty.
Welcome to the lab. Let’s transform and glow!
